Olivetti Programma 101 (P101)
Iconic pioneer of the desktop computer
The Olivetti Programma 101 (P101) was introduced in 1965.
A team led by Pier Giorgio Perotto developed the machine from 1962 onward.
The device is widely regarded as the world’s first programmable desktop computer.
Moreover, it delivered unprecedented computing power for its time.
Mario Bellini designed its form and ergonomics. He received the Compasso d’Oro for this work.
NASA also used the P101 for complex calculations related to the Apollo Moon landing in 1969.
This rare computer is in exceptionally fine condition. The unit is complete and free from damage or discoloration. After years of inactivity, a professional technical inspection is recommended, with particular attention to replacing the printer drive belt.
The set includes the original power cable, manuals, and magnetic cards.
In 2025, this unit was on loan to the exhibition ‘Women as technology’ in Design Museum Den Bosch, the Netherlands.

De Olivetti Programma 101 (P101) kwam in 1965 op de markt.
Een team onder leiding van Pier Giorgio Perotto ontwikkelde de machine vanaf 1962.
Het toestel geldt als de eerste programmeerbare desktopcomputer ter wereld. Bovendien leverde het een voor die tijd ongekende rekenkracht.
Mario Bellini ontwierp de vormgeving en ergonomie. Daarmee won hij de Compasso d’Oro.
Ook NASA gebruikte de P101 voor complex rekenwerk rond de Apollo-maanlanding in 1969.
Deze zeldzame computer verkeert in uitzonderlijk mooie staat. Het apparaat is compleet en vrij van beschadigingen of verkleuringen.
Na jaren van stilstand wordt een professionele technische controle aanbevolen, waarbij met name de transmissieriem van de printer dient te worden vervangen.
De set bevat het originele netsnoer, handboeken en magneetkaarten. In 2025 stond dit exemplaar als bruikleen in de tentoonstelling ‘Vrouwen als technologie’ in Design Museum Den Bosch.
